CALL FOR PARTICIPATION2011 HIT-MSRA Summer School on Human Language TechnologyAugust 1-10, 2011, Harbin, Chinahttp://mitlab.hit.edu.cn/2011summerschool/ Deadline for applications: 11:59PM July 15, 2011 (GMT +8) The 2011 HIT-MSRA Summer School on Human Language Technology, supported by Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) and hosted by the MOE-MS Joint Key Lab of NLP and Speech in Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), is once again offering an exciting summer school opportunity for a limited number of students interested in Human Language Technology and Computational Linguistics. Our summer school also belongs to Graduate Education Innovation Project of Chinese Ministry of Education. The Summer School will be held on August 1-10, 2011 in Harbin (Heilongjiang), China. The school is co-sponsored by Microsoft Research Asia ( MSRA ) and Harbin Institute of Technology ( HIT ). THE FOCUS OF THIS SUMMER SCHOOLThe school is the sixth installment of the MSRA-HIT NLP Summer School Series, which started in 2005. The primary purpose of the school is to discuss and apply theories and results in important areas of Language technology and Computational Linguistics, with the help of leading scholars and researchers. This year's summer school will offer a broad range of courses, introducing students not only to machine learning, machine translation, information extraction and natural language generation, but also to semantic analysis and parsing. Most courses will contain a practical component in which students carry out a small project. Lectures and project work will take place on the HIT Campus. The working language of the school is English. We are delighted to announce the following confirmed speakers: * Qiang Yang (Professor, HKUST, HK) * John Carroll (Professor, University of Sussex, UK) * Kees van Deemter (Reader, University of Aberdeen, UK) * Wenjie Li (Associate Professor, HKPolyU, HK) * Diarmuid o SeAGHDHA (Postdoctoral Researcher, Cambridge University, UK) * Taro Watanabe (Senior Researcher, NICT Universal Communication Research Institute, Japan) * Ming Zhou (Senior Researcher, Microsoft Research Asia) TARGET AUDIENCEThe target audience of the school includes post-graduate students (at both the Master's and PhD level), and advanced undergraduate students. The organizers plan to select about 80 qualified and motivated participants from among the applicants. APPLICATIONS TO THE SUMMER SCHOOLApplications should be made electronically. Application and registration are free for approved participants. The organizers will provide free handout materials and computer labs, as well as a partial support for accommodation. Thus, the participants need to cover the travel costs, meals and one hundred yuan deposit for accommodation (100 yuan will be returned when you leave dormitory, accommodationes are free from July 31 to August 10). VENUEThe main campus of HIT locates in the downtown area of Harbin (10 minutes by taxi from the train station and 1 hour from airport).
